Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, law firms and legal departments have been thinking about how to integrate GenAI into their operating models. With the technology’s ability to produce content based on language patterns, its ramifications for the sector could be huge. AI is already making lawyers’ work easier, powering research databases, helping with due diligence processes, analysing and drawing up contracts, drafting legal opinions or comparing laws from different jurisdictions. Tech companies are developing specialist legal AI tools, including in case law. Legal and tech experts are also seeking ways of averting the challenges of GenAI, such as “hallucinations” or data breaches.
GenAI could facilitate regulatory compliance, provide a competitive advantage in litigation or help navigate the complex tax landscape more effectively. With GenAI’s ability to speed up and scale processes, companies want their legal services to be as up-to-date as their counterparts.
This webinar, hosted by the Financial Times in collaboration with PwC, explored GenAI's impact on law firms since the Gen AI boom. It discussed the technology's current uses by law firms, future trends, and means of overcoming challenges, as well as examined the ways GenAI has been changing client expectations.
